Mong Hing Teochew Restaurant

My mum and her younger sister shared the same birthday month – October. As my parents would be going away to Yunnan soon and my aunt is working near keypoint, I treated them an early birthday lunch at Mong Hing.

Mong Hing is a Teochew restaurant which progressed from a stall in a hawker center (already demolished) in “Teochew Kuay” or Tew Chew St (currently where the Merchant Court Hotel and Central at Clarke is)  to a restaurant at Keypoint building (they moved to ground floor shop space of the demolished flats at Outram then Riverside Point before settling at Keypoint).

We have spotted BG Yeo and his family a few times when we had our weekend lunch at Mong Hing. Trust me. Food is GOOD 😉

Prawn Roll S$7 (Small)

Goose Meat (with Soft Beancurd hidden underneath) S$13 (Small)

Crayfish S$24 (Small)

Braised Toufu with Seafood and Yam S$8 (Small)

Fruits – Complimentary

Dessert – “Or Nee” or Yam Paste with Pumpkin and Gingko Nuts S$9 (Small – Enough for 4 persons)

Tea S$3 (inclusive of the bigger pot)

Total came up to S$65.70 after 10% discount using Citibank Card (On weekdays ala carte only) and inclusive of peanuts (S$2), wet towels (S$0.30 each), rice (S$0.50) and porridge (S$0.70).

Question is why does porridge cost S$0.20 more than rice (per bowl)?

  1. I’ve never really eaten Teochew food. 😦

I’ll ask my mum to make some for me one day. 🙂
