Where is Upper Cross Street?

Have you ever wonder where’s Upper Cross Street exactly? It’s not indicated on any online map. Online maps show Cross Street spans the whole stretch of road from somewhere near Hong Leong Building to somewhere near Subordinate Courts.

But, it’s a valid search value and the street name indeed existed.

I have proof. Hah… a very old one. 🙂

It has an interesting Chinese name then – 海山街.

But, Singapore’s official Chinese version of Upper Cross Street is 克罗士街上段.

I like the old name better as it tells the history behind the street name (named after a secret society) and has more character of its own.

Wondering why is Upper missing on online maps (Pickering Street has Upper version why not Cross Street? See the map above) and also why not retain its old Chinese name?
